By Oluwamayowa Ojo
Barely a week after the closure of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), following the shooting of two students of the institution by policemen, the school is set to reopen on Monday.
The Management of the institution has directed the students to resume for academic activities on Monday, January 30, 2017.
The Registrar of the university, J.A.A.Shittu has sent a memo to workers of the institution on the reopening of the school.
Shittu in a radio announcement on Friday said normal academic activities will resume fully on the said date.
He stated that peace and calm has returned to the university and Oke Baale area, the host community of the Institution’s Main Campus in Osogbo.
Shittu said: “Management at its meeting on the 25th of January, 2017 reviewed the closure of the university following students’ demonstration caused by police brutality on two of our students that happened on Saturday, 21st January, 2017.
“Management observed that relative peace has since return to the university, thereby decided that normal academic activities should resume on Monday, January 30, 2017.”
He, however, urged students of the university to return to school and remain law abiding.
It will be recalled that yet to be identified policemen belonging to the Oke Baale Police Division shot two students of the university while playing football.
According to reports, the randy policemen were said to have demanded money from the students, who after declining to accede, were shot.
The incident sparked demonstrations in major streets in Osogbo with the students demanding justice on the matter.
