Motorcycle Snatchers Bag Three Months Jail In Osun

A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun has convicted and sentenced two men to three months imprisonment for snatching an unregistered motorcycle from a commercial motorcyclist

The duo identify as Samson Mufutau (35) and his accomplice Akeem Wahab were arraigned on October 24 on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, felony and stealing

The first accused on the first day of arraignment pleaded guilty to all the three-count charge and was remanded in Ilesha prison custody while the second accused accused pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Counsel to the second accused, Barrister Okobi Najite applied for his bail in the most liberal terms.

He was admitted bail in the sum of 50,000 with one surety but  latter remanded in Ilesa prison custody following his inability to perfect the bail conditions.

At the resume hearing on Friday, Wahab changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.

Presenting the fact of the case, Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq told the court that the duo and others currently at large conspired and committed the offence on October 13, 2017 at Labate area Kojola Street, Osogbo.

Rasaq explained that the suspects were found in possession of unregistered motorcycle with engine number QJ150FFMG21083099 and chassis number SLBBPEGLX8278428X.

He said the accused had committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516, and  430 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11. Laws of State 2003.

Presiding Magistrate, Ashiru Ayeni convicted the duo base on self admittance and sentenced them to three months imprisonment or pay a fine of N5,000 each.

He thereby ordered that the stolen motorcycle be sold and the proceeds should be deposited in government account.
