Teachers Salary Crisis: NUT Commends KWHA Over Prompt Intervention

The National Union of teachers (NUT) Kwara State Chapter has commended the Kwara State House of Assembly for its commitment towards providing immediate and permanent solutions to the payment of  teachers salaries.

To this end, the National President of the NUT, is to  visit the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad in appreciation of the legislature’s roles, to serve as impetus for others.

The State NUT Chairman Comrade Musa Abubakar gave this indication during a courtesy call on the Speaker Dr Ali Ahmad in his office.

Comrade Abubakar who noted with delight that the hierarchy of the House had played significant role in ensuring that teachers had a fair share of the
Paris Club refund, as payment of their outstanding salaries and in ensuring that funding of teachers salaries was removed from the Local Government
Councils in the on going constitution amendment.

He said that with these, the hierarchy of the House had demonstrated that the wellbeing of teachers, who according to him, were moulders of future
leaders, was paramount to the parliament in the state.

The State NUT boss who disclosed that the national leadership of the NUT, was fully aware of the pivotal role of the legislature and had resolved to visit the Speaker, to reinforce its belief in the lawmakers  as a rally point for teachers in the country.

He assured that teachers would reciprocate the gesture, by rededicating themselves to the educational wellbeing of children in the state and urgedthe House not to relent in providing enduring solution to the problem of payment of teachers’ salaries in the state, through the instrumentality of
the Constitution.

Responding, the Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad who praised the hierarchy of NUT in the state ,for ensuring responsible leadership, saying that Kwara State had been a pacesetter to other states, especially in the area of Community Health Insurance Scheme.

The Speaker assured that Parliament, will not relent in ensuring that the state recorded similar success in the educational sector, pointing out that, the  the 8th legislature under him, would not hesitate to consult with the NUT, when it is the turn of the state Houses of Assembly to play their part in  the constitutional amendment, so as to proffer enduring solution to funding of basic education in the country.
