The president of Oodua Progressive Care Initiative (OPCI) , Aare (Dr.) Marouf Olanrewaju Salam has accused the National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples’ Congress, Otunba Gani Adams of defrauding the organization to the tune of about N8.9Billion as part of the reasons for opting out to start the new outfit.

OPCI

He made this disclosure at the press conference and launching of the
Oodua Progressive Care Initiative held in Ile-Ife.

Giving a breakdown of these alleged fraudulent transactions, Aare
Salam who was a former State Coordinator of OPC under Gani Adams said that he was reliably informed that the organization was given N800million for the “Jega must go rally” to be held in Lagos during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan before the election.

He added that Gani Adms got a pipeline security contract to the tune
of N9Billion as even recently disclosed by the Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed but he averred that it was split into three for the leaders just as he revealed he accompanied Gani Adams to President Goodluck when Adams was promised N100million each for 34 States of the federation where OPC operates which he got but did not get to members.

He said “Gani Adams collected  about N250,000 on each member
which did not get to them for hazards and empowerment before the
election which was given to him in an hotel at Ado-Ekiti by the former
Minister of Defence, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro. This is different from
the N2,500 collected from each of the 6 million members of the organization for Identification cards in preparation for opening of the account for members for the empowerment programme of the erstwhile administration.”

Salam further alleged Adams, he said “after the election, Adams refused to give an account of his stewardship to members but decided to buy expensive and luxurious cars of N3.4million each for himself, his wife and kid.

Giving a graphic description of the crisis that has always bedeviled the organization since inception, he said the organization became factionalized as a result of accusation leveled against the founder, Dr. Frederick Fasehun by Otunba Gani Adams that he (Fasehun) collected N3million from former president Olusegun Obasanjo contrary to the oath of not having anything to do with partisan politics. He averred that
Gani Adams himself is now neck-deep in partisan politics and he has
refused to quit when accused.

OPCI

All these after wider consultation, he said led to the formation of
Oodua Progressive Care Initiative that has already been registered
with the Corporate Affairs Commission in Abuja in order to transit from the illegal Oodua Peoples’ Congress that has been banned since 2011.

Giving credence to the vision and mission spelt out by the new president, a member of the Board of Trustee of the new organization, Prof. Samsudeen Busari Akande (Deputy Vice Chancellor, American Trinity University, California, USA, Lome campus in Africa) said OPCI
evolved a management structure that gives room for successor in hierarchical order in a democratic manner as opposed to one man show
of Gani Adams OPC. Other speakers like Ambassador Etinosa Ekedaro from
Edo supports the evolving but essential unique organization with
headquarters in Ile-Ife.
