Osharon Egberanmuen and Michael Eyoekpe — who conspired and strangled a Lagos transport company (Uber) driver, were on Tuesday remanded in prison on the orders of an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.A. Fowowe-Erusianfe, ordered that the accused should be demanded in Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The duo of Egberanmuen, 31 and Eyoekpe, 27, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful killing.

Counsel from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Mr G.O. Osuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 23 at about 10.00 p.m. at Obawole in Ogba area of Ikeja.

The accused had posed as passengers and boarded the Kia Rio saloon car with registration no. KTU 594 DM of the deceased, Edewo Iniovasa,  from Ikeja to Okeira in Ogba.

During the journey, they suddenly ordered the driver to make a U-turn and take them to Oremeji Street in Obawole area of Ogba, where he was strangled with a belt.

“The accused drove away the vehicle and were traced to Benin where they were apprehended.”

The offences contravened Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case has been adjourned until May 31.
