Police Arrest 6 for Allegedly Hijacking Truck Loaded with 33,000 Liters Diesel
The Osun Police Command on Friday said it has arrested six men who are suspected to have hijacked/snatched a tanker truck loaded with 33,000 liters of diesel at Ile-Ife expressway, after toll gate, Osun.
Parading the suspects at the police command in Osogbo, Mr Olafimihan Adeoye, the Osun Commissioner of Police (CP) said seven armed robbers operating with a Black Gulf 03 wagon car blocked the truck and snatched it from the driver.
Adeoye said the original driver of the truck, Musa Muhammed loaded the truck with diesel at NIPCO Lagos, but when his truck developed fault and stopped, he was overpowered alongside his motor boy by the robbers.
He said the suspects were however caught when Gowon Tayo, 38, and Blessing Akintayo, 19, were intercepted at Iloba Junction, Ile-Ife, on Saturday, at about 8:30am by Security Operatives.
He said the confession of the arrested persons, found with the truck, led to the arrest of Akinjole Kayode,38, Akinjole Akintayo,25 and Godday Daniel, 37, who are all connected to the crime.
He said one Omoniyi Johnson, 40, was also arrested as the buyer of the stolen diesel.
Adeoye said efforts are being intensified to recover the vehicle used by the suspects for the operation and to equally apprehend the seventh suspect who is still on the run.
In a similar development, the police also paraded a 42-year-old blacksmith, Nurudeen Oladejo for unlawfully being in possession of firearms.
The CP said at about 8pm on Sunday, the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) patrol got information that the suspect who resides in Oke-Ola, Odeomu in Osun, specialises in making local barrel guns for hoodlums and armed robbers.
He said when search warrant was served on the suspect, three local single barrel guns, one short Dane gun, one live and empty cartridges, two iron rods and his working tools were recovered from him.
He said when investigations are concluded on the suspects, they would all be charged to court for prosecution
