Introduction Of Extra-curricular Activities In Schools Will Uplift Education Standard —Aregbesola
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, has said that the extracurricular activities in schools across the state would help in adding value to the education sector and also ensure standards.
Aregbesola made this known at the Osogbo township stadium on Saturday at the middle school calisthenics competition organised to commemorate his 7th years anniversary of governance.
He said : ” Extracurricular activities in schools to include calisthenic would help bring discipline, unity of purpose and sense of responsibility among students. ”
According to him, calisthenic was first introduced in Osun in 2012 to ensure character and competency in the education sector but due to some political reasons, it was scrapped and later reintroduced.
” We introduce calisthenic display sometimes in Oct. 2012 in order to raise the educational consciousness of our students.
” It was misrepresented by some political gladiators for a private security outfits due to the exercises involved.
” We thank God it was later reintroduced and has show the uniqueness of this present adminstration which would come to an end in the next 357 days ,” Aregbesola said.
The Governor thanked the organizers of the middle school calisthenics competition in making the events a success mark his 7th years anniversary.
Aregbesola also praised the winner of the calisthenic display from Osun central senatorial districts.
Aregbesola also used the occasion to assured the people of the state to expect more in the remaining 367 days to the end of his tenure.
The finale of the calisthenic display witnessed three participants from Osun East senatorial districts, Osun West Senatorial districts and Osun central senatorial districts.
The event was competed by 21 middle schools within the 9 constituency in the state.
The governor presented a sum of N2 million to the winner who came first while the second and third runners up went home with N1 million and N750,000 respectively.
He said the cash awards would be used to developed sporting facilities in schools across the senatorial districts.
In his remarked, Mr Wasiu Omotunde- Young , the commissioner of Education thanked the organizers, coaches, parents and children for their support in making the event successful.
Young urged the citizens in the state to continue to support the governor in laying a solid education foundation for our children’s future
