Victory Of PDP Candidate For July 8 Senatorial By-election In Osun Gets Boost
Olu Babalola, Ibadan
The victory of Dr. Ademola Adeleke in the July 8 senatorial bye elections in Osun state got a boost on Wednesday with another reconciliation meeting between two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party which took place in Gbongan.
The meeting that was facilitated by Honourable Albert Abiodum Adeogun and presided over by Chief Abiola Morakinyo, had in attendance, Dr. Deji Adeleke, who represented the Adeleke family, Hon. Adejare Bello, former speaker of the Osun state House of Assembly, Prince A. Laoye, a senatorial leader of PDP, Hon. Bade Falade, who has consented to step down for Adeleke, the senatorial candidate and other chieftains of the two factions of the PDP.
Senator Iyiola Omisore, a Chieftain of the PDP, was absent for an unknown reason.
Speaking after the meeting, Hon. Adeogun, who is also a gubernatorial candidate in the state, said that though Chief Morakinyo was a statesman, members of two factions of PDP met at his Gbongan residence because he was a man well revered in society.
“We met at Gbongan in order to find solutions to crises within crises. My intervention is out of respect for Chief Morakinyo and the Adeleke family who are held in high esteem. I also appreciate the humility of Dr. Deji Adeleke who gave respect to the elders present during the meeting.”
Adeogun disclosed that it was the intervention of elders that made Falade drop his ambition in order to support Ademola Adeleke for the July 8 bye elections, adding that Falade has pledged to work assiduously for the victory of PDP.
He explained that all the leaders of PDP from the two factions have realised that a house divided against itself cannot stand adding, “the unity that is manifesting today is a signal to the end of APC in Osun state.”
Adeogun who is a lawmaker in the House of Representatives said that he was aware of plots by APC to set chieftains of PDP against one another but their plots would fail.
Adeogun reiterated his call on the electorates in Osun to vote for Ademola Adeleke, the PDP candidate, adding that from all indications, APC had failed woefully in the state.
