Police In Enugu Records Zero Report Of Car Snatching – CP Danmallam
By Stanley Nwanosike, Enugu
Mr Mohammed Danmallam, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, on Monday said the sate command recorded zero report of car snatching in the last two months.
Danmallam told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu that the command had effectively put an end to car snatching by bursting all car snatching syndicates previously operating in the state.
He said that car snatching was common when he took over the command in February this year.
“That time, we received nothing less than six reports of car snatching on a daily basis in the state. The development was so unpleasant to me.
“So, we went into action, spreading our pro-active search and drag-net to every nook and cranny as well as people who deal or have business to do with car handling, repair and spare parts sales.
“By the grace of God and hard work, we were able to stop the trend and burst all the car snatching syndicates,’’ he said.
The commissioner said that he had motivated and led various operations with units and squads on the field to ensure that “officers and men are on top of their games as they see their commissioner with them.
“So, we have been highly pro-active, while my commanders and team leaders have been up and doing. This is why we have reduced crimes and incidents of criminality in the state to zero level.
“The issue of kidnapping had disappeared, while we have battled cultism and gangsterism as well,’’ he said.
Danmallam said that the command also received cooperation from other security agencies, especially the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC).
He also said that the police had enjoyed good relationship with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Prison Service and Neighbourhood Vigilante Groups in various communities in the state.
“We conduct joint internal security patrols, joint show of force sessions, seminars and monthly meetings to ensure that collectively we are ahead of criminals and other emerging security threats in the state,’’ he said.
Danmallam said that Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the state had been supportive to the command.
