Kano Govt Purchases 100 Tractors For Farmers
Kano State Governor, Dr. Umar Ganduje has awarded a N344. 33 million contract for purchase of 100 tractors to farmers in the state.
A statement released by Press Secretary to governor of Kano State, Ameen Yassar a copy which was made available to CityMirrorNews in Kano, Kano State capital on Sunday, he revealed that the purchase of tractors was part of Governor Ganduje’s initiatives to revamp agriculture.
The statement indicates that an indigenous company, Messers. Hello Nigeria Ltd will deliver the tractors in two consignments within 30 days.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Binta Rabi’u who signed Memorandum of Understanding with the company on behalf of the state government said: “The move is a demonstration of Governor Ganduje’s commitment to revamp food production and make our economy thriving, in line with the vision of the Federal government.
“The government’s determination is also manifested in several key interventions including the revitalization of our agricultural input company, KASCO, resulting in bumper food production in Kano, in the past two years”.
A Director of Hello Nigeria Ltd., Dr. Bashir Muhammad promised to abide by the construal obligation, noting that it would contribute towards attaining the government’s vision and mission.
In a related development, Governor Ganduje has announced that Kano state government will procure agricultural implements like combine harvesters, threshers and other simple modern farming equipment for farmers from China.
The governor, who is currently on an official trip to Hunan Province, China, made this known shortly after a meeting with officials of Hunan Sunfeild Machinery Ltd, a leading manufacturer of mechanized faming equipment and components, in China.
“Apart from this, we have asked the company to consider establishing an assembly plant for its products, in Kano, to serve as an outlet for Nigeria and West Africa and their response was positive”, he added.
He said if established, the investment would not only enhance agricultural mechanization and improved yields but also facilitate job creation and technology transfer.
Ganduje and his entourage inspected the Yuan Seed Hybrid Rice Company and is rice farm at Changsha, Hunan, where he restated determination of his administration to collaborate with the company to produce high yielding hybrid rice in Kano, in view of the state’s vast potential for growing wheat and rice.
Governor Ganduje was also taken on a guided tour of the Agricultural Machinery Industrial Park at Xiangtan Jinhua Economic Development Zone.
