Osogbo, Technical Students Clash: 2 Peace Corps Officers Remanded in Prison

Two officers of the Peace Corps of Nigeria have been remanded in prison custody by an Osogbo magistrate court for allegedly involving the clash between students of the Osogbo Grammar School and Technical College, Osogbo.
The accused Peace Corps officers; Akinwande Olanike, (30) and Akande Olawale (31) were arraigned alongside a 23-year-old-student, Abiodun Olorunfemi on charges of breach of peace, conspiracy, assault, possession of dangerous weapons and malicious damaged.
According to the charge sheet, Olanike and Olawale allegedly engaged Olorunfemi, the student in fight which led to the breach of public peace ,setting the school in disarray.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Abiodun Fagboyinbo told the court that the peace corps officers were alleged of extorting money from students of Osogbo Technical School students.
According to Fagboyinbo, Olorunfemi, the student mobilized his colleagues who were at large to confront the Peace Corps members to protest the extortion.
The Prosecutor said the Osogbo High school fence was damaged, windscreen and side mirror of a vehicle with registration number KJA 20 AT was also destroyed and a ford bus with registration number LND 329 DC windscreen was also vandalized.
He said the incidents led to some students sustaining fatal injuries in the process and still at critical conditions at various hospitals in the state.
Fagboyinbo said the offense contravened Sections 516, 355, 451, 408, 249(d) and 355 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
But the suspects pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Defence counsels, Mrs Bose Adeyinka and Mr Ranegene Ngwu, prayed the court to grant bail to the accused persons in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs Fatima Sodamade turned down the bail application and demanded for formal bail application on the next date of adjournment.
The case was adjourned till April 10, 2017 for mention.
