Local Govt Election to Hold Before the End of the Year – Aregbesola

By Segun Adejumo

Governor Rauf Aregbesola has said that election would be conducted into the local governments before the end of this year.
Aregbesola who spoke at a workshop organized for local government information officers on Wednesday (today), said the coast was clear to conduct the election into local government elective offices in the state.
The governor lamented the ineffectiveness of the local government officers in reporting the activities of the government, challenging them to be more alive in their responsibility of promoting the activities of the state government especially in the rural areas.
Aregbesola said government activities were being under reported, in spite of the landmark programmes of his administration.
He charged the information officers to work hard to become information specialists, saying ‘We are desired to provide unrivalled and unequalled primary information to the public.”
Aregbesola who described the hues and cries following the state’s debt burden recently released by NEITI as insignificant to the laudable achievements of his administration, stated that the financial credit incurred was judiciously utilized.
He added that the report should not be overblown as justifiable projects have been done to cater for the huge brunt in 20 years time.
Resource persons at the occasion, Messrs Sanya Oni of the Nation newspapers, Comrade Wale Adebisi of the Ola Oni Centre and Mr Sola Fasure challenged the information officers at the local government level to be aware of new trends in their profession and be vibrant and resourceful.
