Uproar as Policemen Shot 2 UNIOSUN Students

There was pandemonium in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun state, as two students of the Osun State University, (UNIOSUN), Kazeem Adesola and Ibrahim Ajao were allegedly shot by some policemen from the headquarters of Zone 11 of the Nigerian Police Force controlling Osun, Oyo and Ondo states.
It was gathered that the students were playing football at a pitch off-campus around Oke-Baale when the policemen suddenly came in mufti and accused some of the students of involving in internet fraud also known as Yahoo-Yahoo (YY).
One of the students said the policemen were in the habit of harassing the students and exploiting them and that the attempt by the student to resist the harassment on Saturday led to the shooting.
“We were playing football when they came. They always come like that to arrest students here. They would say that we are involved in Yahoo-Yahoo and they would seize our laptops and phones.
“They would collect money on the pretext of bail. But we resisted them on this last one. Within a twinkle of an eye, the policemen started shooting.
“When the policemen started shooting, we ran away but the bullet hit two of us and they were rushed to hospital. The bullet hit one near his stomach and the bullet hit the second one in his mount”.
The Commissioner of police in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye confirmed the incident and disclosed that the policemen have been arrested and detained and assured that they would face the full wrath of the law.
The CP said he has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter and cautioned the students of the institution not to take laws into their hands. He also assured the people of Osogbo of their safety.
He said the essence of investigation was to establish and identify that such an act was committed then to know the people involved so that the law can take it normal cause.
Adeoye “said two students were injured in the incident and are been attended to now at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital,Osogbo and that’s why am here so as to ensure that the victim’s were treated.”
He said “I cannot confirmed that the injury was as a result of gun shot,but have not seen them and it was only the expert can confirmed that”.
The VC, Professor Labode Popoola said the students were exposed to danger because they were live off campus since the institution is non-residential. He said there are efforts to build hostel and ensure that student live where they could be properly monitored and supervised.
