Oluwo, Simba Group to Empower Iwo Women

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Adewale Akanbi has secured an empowerment programme for Iwo women in partnership with Wandel International Nigeria Ltd, a Simba Group Company.

Oba Akanbi who expressed his readiness to support the Simba Group in empowering the Ibadan based association of women cab riders, TVS Queen Riders, launched the Iwo branch of the association on Tuesday.

According to a press release made available by the Oluwo’s Press Secretary, Ibraheem Alli, the traditional ruler received the Ibadan branch Director of the group, Mr. Anand Mehrotra for the flag-off of the empowerment rally at Oluwo`s palace.

It could be recalled that the Ibadan branch of the group has earlier visited Oluwo last week to acquaint him of their planned empowerment training of women in cab driving.

Oluwo said the need for symbiotic responsibility between husband and wife calls for commercial engagement of the women in complementing their husbands` efforts mostly in enhancing their children education.

Oluwo eulogized the Simba Group TVS for their initiative in equipping women and urged them to extend more assistance to the females to make the society financially virile.

He said: “I`m more than interested in the training, the situation of the country calls for mutual responsibilities between husband and wife, mostly towards the educational promotion of their children.

“The man should be responsible financially but sometimes, the woman can complement. And complementing is only possible when you are engaged, either in skilled or unskilled labour. And thank God, women in Iwoland are sincere.

Vouching for Iwo women, Oba Akanbi affirmed their sincerity in financial agreement, pledging that the conduct of the repayment will be respected by the women.

In his comment, Mehrotra lamented the level of non empowerment amongst women in some South-Western states of Nigeria, saying that they need to be empowered as the closest heart to their children.

Mehrotra said men alone cannot solve money problem mostly in a recessed country like Nigeria, admonishing women to embrace the programme in preparing them as an asset and not liability to their husband.

The coordinator of the Queens Riders, Comrade Deborah Omosola Hammed popularly addressed as “First Lady” stated that his choice of Iwo was navigated by the qualitative and compassionate leadership style of Oluwo in promoting his people through various categories of empowerment.

The driving training and orientation is scheduled to hold within two weeks. The palace direct all interested women to show up in the palace for necessary briefing as the training as commenced for the over 50 already registered participants.
