Man, 34, Remanded For Alleged Housebreaking, N350, 000 Property Theft

A 34-year-old, Ahmed Kelani, has been remanded in prison on the orders of an Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Iyaganku over alleged housebreaking and stealing of property worth N350, 000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, said Kelani should be kept behind bars pending advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Kelani, whose address is unknown, is being tried for a three-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking and stealing.

Police Prosecutor James Oriola told the court that the accused with others still at large committed the offences on April 9 at about 5.00 a.m. at Abese Zone 6, Teachers Estate, Ibadan.

Oriola said the accused broke into the house of Mr Kehinde Arojojoye with intent to steal.

According to him, Kelani and others now at large also on March 19 at about 4.30 a.m. at Graceland estate, Are Onibon,Oluyole extension, Ibadan, broke into the house of a woman, Victoria Arisemola .

Items stolen include one HP laptop valued at N120,000, a Techno tablet valued at N50,000 and jewellery worth N150,000.

The offences contravened Sections 126 (2), 383, 390 (9),  411 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The case was adjourned until May 18 for mention.
