Court Remands UNIOSUN Student Who Allegedly Stabbed His Friend to Death

A student of Osun State University, David Akanbi has been remanded in prison custody by an Osogbo magistrate court for allegedly killing his colleague, Kazeem Ige Amodu.

Amodu was a 24-year-old student of Civil Engineering Department of the university before his death.

The charge sheet read in court on Tuesday (today) accused Akanbi of stabbing Amodu to death with a knife on January 16, 2017 at Oke-Bale area, Osogbo.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Mereti Wilson said the 34-year-old suspect has committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol II Laws of Osun State, Nigeria, 2002.

The charge sheet reads: “That you Akanbi David and others now at large on the 16th day of January, 2017 at about 1700hrs at Oke-Baale area, Osogbo in the Osogbo magisterial district did conspire to commit felony to with murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 324 of Criminal Code Cap 34. Vol II laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

“That you Akanbi David and others now at large on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district did unlawfully kill one Amodu Kazeem Ige by stabbing him with a knife on his chest which caused his death and thereby committed an offence contray to 316(1) and punishable under section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34. Vol II laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.”

The plea of the accused person was not taken because the magistrate court lacks jurisdiction to entertain murder case.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Mr. Olushola Aluko ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesa prison, and thereafter adjourned the case till May 5, 2017 for mention.
