Osun to Breed 10,000 Cattles Annually For Meat Production

The Osun State Government has finalized arrangements to make the state the hub of beef production across the South Western Region of the country.

The government is to actualize this with the establishment of the Oloba farm settlement where 1,500 hectares of land was acquired for cattle breeding and 78 hectare ranch with the vision of breeding about 10,000 fat cattle’s and Goats.

According to the government, this will enhance the state’s beef production capacity in the sub-region.

One of the over 40 beneficiaries of adequate training on Agriculture by the state government to Germany in 2015 now resident at the Oloba Cattle Ranch, Iwo, Olumide Ojo submitted that the first set of exercise to fatten 45 goats is underway.

Ojo who spoke at the inspection of Oloba farm by government officials on Monday, expressed the readiness of his colleagues to ensure that the vision of the state government in the promotion of food security is maintained.

Some of the 2,806 OYES Cadets who benefitted from the O’REAP Youth Academy Programme on modern agricultural practices and pig breeding techniques have also swung into action.

Information also has it that the government had procured another 2,000 hectares of land for the setup of a cattle ranch in Ede and Ejigbo local government areas of the state.

The German trainees who have since started work at the Leventis Foundation Fattening Centre, Ilesa on massive pig breeding also commended the government for the opportunity given them.

Also, a group of farmers under the auspices of registered pig farmers’ cooperative society in the state have been granted a N40 million credit facility to aid their work to actualizing government’s vision.

The German trained farmers told newsmen in separate interviews that the first batch of fattened cattles and goats will be ready for sale.
