Group Calls for Restructuring of Education Sector
Nigerians have been charged to always contribute their quota towards the societal growth and development.
The citizens were also urged on the need to put in their best in supporting governments and other stakeholders to restructuring of Nigeria’s education sector.
The call made by the Alumni Association of Baptist High School, Iree, Osun state at her 40th anniversary.
Describing education as the bedrock for socio-economic development, the President of the Alumni Association, Dr. Simeon Afolayan, called for swift intervention in the education sector, saying the education system in the country is long overdue for overhaul resuscitation.
He said no effort must be spared by all and sundry in restoring the glowing reputation of the nation education’s status which according to him seconds to none by all standards and measures in the early 60s.
Afolayan, however, stressed the need for Nigerians to always do the needful in forming a formidable bulwark that would help to fast-track and place the nation’s education system to her rightful position among the comity of nations.
He said the best way for every individual to give back to the society is to partake in the development process and as well be a tangible key-player in education development.
The Alumni President who commended the selfless services usually rendered by members of the association towards uplifting the standard of education, said the roles played by the association in making the school a real citadel of knowledge would be forever remembered.
“This is our alma mata as the 1977 set of Baptist High school, Iree. Though we have been so supportive to education especially on the need to develop capacity that would further enhance the provision of quality education”, he added.
Afolayan therefore implored his members not to relent on their oars turning the school to mega academic institution.
“We should all work towards the advancement of the school to make it an outstanding citadel of learning.
“If we compare the development of the past years with the ones being recorded now, you agree with me that, there was a great transformation of note”, he stressed.
In his own lecture at the event, former managing Director, Bank Of Industry, Mr. Rasheed Olaoluwa remarked that,every state in the country has its own potential of thriving in the agricultural field and charged every zone to identify its area of specialisation in cropping farming.
He however maintained that, agricultural cropping system should be embraced in every zone to enhance better productivity in the agricultural sector.
Olaoluwa said “If growing of cocoa, cassava or rubber in the south west zone is being favoured by its land, let it specialize in it and if growing of melon or millet is being favoured in the northern part of the country, let is specialise in it also for progressive results.”
Meanwhile,one of the awardees, Mr. Tunde Kajogbola who was the chairman planning committee of the event, appreciated all alumni members and guests for their effective participation at the occasion.
