The Alumni Association of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso,  has urged Federal Government to take over the ownership of the institution, following the inability of the Oyo and Osun States governments to meet up with their financial obligations.
The alumni association also called on the Chancellor of the university, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to intervene in the three-year old crisis of the institution, saying that the university must not die.
Addressing a press conference on Friday in Osogbo, the LAUTECH Alumni led by its President, Mr Jide Bewaji said the university is in comatose, hence the need for the federal government to take over the institution to safe the future of the students.
They appealed to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun and Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo states to expedite action on making public the white paper report on the visitation panel report.
The Alumni said it was incumbent upon them to find permanent solutions to the challenges currently facing their Alma mater, just as they condemned the disruption of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination by the students of the institution.
According to the alumni, it was despicable and irrational for a section of the students to carry the obituary of the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Adeniyi  Gbadegesin, calling on the students to be responsive on their protest.
The LAUTECH old students said though, the association understands that the students’ action was borne out of frustration on the effect of the strike action on their future, but they should have employed another means of agitating their rights.
They therefore apologise to the UTME candidates, Joint Admission Matriculation Board and the entire public on the inconveniences and embarrassment the action of the students might have caused them.
“We call on the Federal Government to take over LAUTECH because the two owner states are not fulfilling their financial obligations which is the cause of the crisis rocking the university for three years now. It is obvious that the two states could no longer run the university, so the FG should take over to safe the future of the students.
“We also call on Chancellor of the university, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to intervene in the LAUTECH crisis. We know anywhere Tinubu’s names is mentioned, success, breakthrough, fortune are associated with it, Tinubu should please intervene and safe LAUTECH from dying”, the alumni said.
