Facebook To Bring Augmented Reality To Real World -Zuckerberg
Mr Mark Zuckerberg, the Chairman of Facebook says the organisation will bring augmented reality to the real world as viable parts of Facebook business over the next decade.
Zuckerberg was quoted by the Business Insider, an online news website as saying this during the 10th Annual F8 conference in California on Tuesday when he unveiled the camera effects platform.
Business Insider is a German-owned American news website – a fast-growing business site with deep financial, media, tech and other industry verticals.
He said that Facebook expected it would turn artificial intelligence, ubiquitous internet connectivity, virtual and augmented reality into viable parts of Facebook business over the next decade.
“The camera effects platform is basically a set of tools for outside developers to build their own augmented reality apps.
“That you can access from the existing Facebook app’s camera, theoretically opening the door for Facebook to host the next “Pokémon Go” phenomenon,“ he said.
Pokémon Go is a free-to-play location based augmented reality game developed by Niantic for IOS and android devices.
According to Zuckerberg, Facebook’s future prospects focus on augmented reality based on technology that overlays digital imagery onto the real world like Snapchat’s signature camera filters.
He said that it would double down on the company’s ambitious 10-year plan.
“While the announcement seems pretty innocuous, make no mistake: Facebook is, once again, putting itself into direct competition with Google and Apple,’’ he said.
He said that Facebook was trying to create yet another parallel universe of apps and tools that did not rely on the smart phones’ own marketplaces.
Zuckerberg noted that each year, Facebook invited developers to gather and gain insight into what the social media giant had up its sleeve.
