2019: Hanga Faults Kwankwaso
Pioneer national chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Rufai Hanga, has faulted media reports that former vice-president and stalwart of the party, Atiku Abubakar, was plotting with certain individuals to dump the party and float another ahead of the 2019 presidential race.
In the report attributed to a former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former vice-president was alleged to be working with the incumbent Kano State governor, Umar Ganduje, to float the purported party.
In the statement signed by Suleiman Bichi, the former secretary to the immediate past state governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, he accused Atiku and Ganduje, of mingling with the Ahmed Makarfi’s faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But addressing newsmen at the weekend, in Abuja, Senator Hanga dismissed the claim raised by Senator Kwankwaso as a figment of his imagination and further cautioned the former state governor not to drag the former vice-president into his supremacy battle with the incumbent Kano governor.
“Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ganduje are in politics, they are not at war with anybody, because as he (Kwankwaso) should know better, there is, indeed, life beyond politics,” he stated
