Plateau Christian Youths Condemn Attacks As Government Relaxes Curfew

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Plateau state has condemned attacks on Ancha village in Bassa Local Government Area of the state where more than 19 people were killed and the unfortunate tension that built up within Jos and Bukuru metropolis.

The youths said this in a release signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the association, Markus A. Kanda and Samuel Asika respectively.

They charged “government to do everything possible to unravel the perpetrators of this dastardly act and ensure that justice is done”. They also called on the government to “ensure that those affected are assisted with the basic needs of life”.

“YOWICAN condemns the activities of those whose stock in trade it is to perpetually desire to plunge Plateau state into anarchy and restlessness as well as leave trails of pain and agony” and “assure the State Governor and all security agencies on behalf of all Christian Youths of its readiness to support all steps it has taken to ensure that peace and normalcy returns to our dear Plateau State”.

Meanwhile, Plateau state government has relaxed the curfew imposed on Jos and Bukuru metropolis as a result of the crises that erupted in the city last Thursday. The decision was taken as a result of “improvement in the state of security”

This was disclosed by Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, Director, Press and Public Affairs in a statement released yesterday exclusively obtained by City Mirror News.

It reads: The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong having considered the improvement in the state of security, since the unfortunate incidence of Thursday, 14th September, 2017 which necessitated the imposition of a dusk to dawn curfew, has with effect from Sunday the 17th September, 2017 approved the relaxation of the Curfew from 10pm daily to 6am of the subsequent day until further notice”.

The Governor appreciated the swift response of Security Personnel and the wide spread community consultative meetings held by various community and religious leaders, which have come out with renewed commitments and resolves of all and sundry to be law abiding and peaceful.

He assured citizens of the State that Security Personnel will continue to patrol flash points within the greater Jos-Bukuru Metropolis, and they will ensure that all security measures as are necessary to guarantee peace, security and compliance with the new curfew order are done, so as to avert any likely bridge of law and order while “enjoining all citizens to go about their lawful business with the assurance that their safety is guaranteed”.
