A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Iwo, Osun West Senatorial District,  Engineer Olasunkanmi Olaniyi has cleared air on the allegation levelled against him that he soiled hands in the death of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke. The APC chieftain who confirmed the presence of the deceased before his demise at his daughter’s wedding, wondered how he could have poisoned Adeleke who he said he  didn’t eat at the occasion.

Olaniyi stated this from the witness box during the court proceedings of the Coroner Inquest set up by the state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the late Senator at the State High Court, Osogbo.

The contractor cum politician from Iwo said it was true that he invited the deceased on 22nd April, 2017 to his daughter’s wedding in Iwo being his political leader but he didn’t eat anything.

He said, “the deceased arrived my daughter’s wedding at about 7:00pm alongside his political entourage when we were about to leave the event hall where the programme took place.

“But at the time they arrived there was no food but we managed to entertain them with meat. But being a generous person, Adeleke gave his entourage the meats but I couldn’t say whether he took out of it or not.

“Adeleke came with his own brand of drinks and personal glass cup, so at my own party the issue of poisoning did not arise at all.

“I was even surprised about his death. He has been my leader since 1991 when Osun state has not been created.

“I am a member of All Progressives Congress. I am a member of Adeleke’s support Group in Iwo, as for this, I wonder how anyone will say he took poison at my event because his death will not do me any profit.

“The last meeting which all members of Adeleke’s Supoort Group held with the deceased, he promised us many thing even on my daughter’s wedding, he gave me a N100, 000 cheque which was postulated to 24th of May so as to show his love for me.

“So, I was surprised that people were saying that it is Iwo people that killed him and they were ready to kill anyone from Iwo”.

When he was asked by the Chairman of the Coroner, Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara whether the deceased ate at the meeting held with him, he said he was not sure.

Meanwhile, Barrister Lekan Alabi, the lawyer to the doctor that administered drug for the late senator, applied for stand down order, saying he has to attend another court case.

The lawyer whose letter was read in the court promised to show up this afternoon and the court adjourned till 12:00pm.
