Olaniyi gave his evidence today at the coroner inquest set up by the Osun state government to probe the circumstances surrounding Adeleke’s death.

He said: “Adeleke was my political leader. He arrived at my party around 7pm when we were almost packing out of the hall. He came in an entourage of about 30 people. There was neither food nor drink available anymore by the time he and his entourage came.

“We only served him and his people meat and Adeleke was not specially served. The meat was put on the table for all of them. In his nature, Adeleke care less about himself, he cared about his people. The people on the table were eating the meat but Adeleke was not eating.

“He came with his special kind of drink and personal glass cup.  The drink and cup was brought out of his car by one of his followers. I do not know the name of the person that brought the drink and cup to the table because he has many people with him.

“I left them on the table and went to make arrangement for table water that his people would drink. He later sent for me because he wanted to give me cheque and took picture with my family.

“He left the party around some minute after 8pm. The issue of poisoning or no poisoning did not arise at my party at all. I was surprised to hear about his death on the following day. Senator Adeleke has been my leader since 1991. I am an active member of All Progressives Congress and Adeleke support group.

“I do not see any reason why some people would say Adeleke took poison at my party. His death would do me no good. He gave me a post dated cheque of N100, 000. The cheque was dated 24th of April 2017, I do not know he would die.

“On the day of his burial, none of the members of Adeleke Support Group was allowed to attend his burial at his country home by some people who called themselves his supporters. All they were saying was that Iwo people lo pa (killed him), and they were ready to kill anybody from Iwo.

When asked the type of drink Adeleke drank, Olaniyi said the drink was Remmy Martins which contains alcohol.

The coroner, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara asked Olaniyi whether there was other way a person could be poisoned aside injection and the politician responded that he did not know any other way.

Further evidence at the coroner was stood down till 12 pm as requested by the lawyer of Mr Alfred Aderibigbe, who was accused of treating Adeleke with banned Analgin and other drugs when the deceased complained of leg pains.
