Zimbabwe Crisis MGGI cautions African Leaders..
The Movement for Good Governance Initiative (MGGI) has described the recent take over of government by the military in Zimbabwe as a set back for good governance in Africa.
The group in a statement signed by its convener Lekan Shobo Shobowale said the recent development in the Africa nation was a pointer to the fact that Africa leaders need to put the interest of their people at heart and shun every form of sit tight syndrome.
The statement said “we received the news of the military take over in Zimbabwe with great shock and disbelief especially this time that military rule is becoming unacceptable in the comity of nations. But as much as we frowned at the act, we also need to called on Africa leaders to see political office as temporary and not permanent.”
The group attributed the military take over to the long reign in power of Zimbabwe’s dictator Robert Mugabe who spent 37 years in office, since 1980.
The statement appealed to the military to ensure the safety of Mr Mugabe and other government officials in the country and also ensure timely restoration of constitutional government in the country.
