A Senior Special Assistant to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Mr Gbenga Ogunkanmi condemned the application for the cancellation of the newly created Local Government Development Areas and Area Councils by three chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ogunkanmi said it is worrisome that the ‘devilish suit’ has snowballed into an order for the stoppage of the statutory allocations to the local government councils, accusing the PDP of making move to strangulate local government administration in the state.

According to Ogunkanmi, it is satanic, ill-conceived, unpatriotic and reprehensible for anybody in the name of politics or whatsoever to seek for the cancellation of the new LCDAs and Area Councils created by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Ogunkanmi in an interview with OSUN DEFENDER condemned the move to stall development of the state, particularly in the name of politics by ‘unscrupulous and disgruntled’ politicians.

He wondered while genuine and rational indigenes of the state would oppose the creation of new LCDAs, maintaining such move was illogical, uncalled for and amounted to throwing the baby with the bath water in the name of politics.

The former Executive Secretary of Ayedire Local Government said: “It is shocking that some people in PDP have approached court for the cancellation of the newly created Local Government Development Areas and Area Councils by the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s administration.

“And that the same people have secured an order of the court ordering the Central Bank of Nigeria, Accountant General of the Federal government and Ministry of Finance to warehouse statutory allocations to the local government councils.

“I consider the suit as a retrogressive move at a time other states, among which is Ogun in the South-West, are creating LCDAs to strengthen grassroots development and bring governance and dividends of democracy closer to the people.

“PDP wants to shutdown governance at local government in Osun has it did to Lagos State during the regime of President Olusegun Obasanjo. But this attempt would be resisted politically and legally. The end has come to PDP in Osun.”

Ogunkanmi called on the people of the state to rise up in defence of development of the state and downtrodden masses who are the first set of people that will be affected by the PDP’s wicked ploy.
