Ondo State government has assured its readiness to pay all the outstanding bursary allowances to students of tertiary institutions soon.
The Executive Chairman, Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development
Commission (OSOPADEC), Mr Olugbenga Edema stated this in a chat with journalists at the NUJ Correspondents Chapel office today.
Edema said the commission would continue to do all its responsibilities as provided by the laws establishing it.
He, however, said that immediately government approved the bursary allowance, students will start receiving the bursary allowances, adding that all the Local Government Areas in the state would benefit from the commission.

The OSOPADEC Chairman also said that the state government was ready to support the federal government in the establishment of modular refinery in the state.

He assured that the state government would key into the federal government’s initiative on the establishment of modular refineries across the state.
Edema said: “If modular refinery is in place, it will prevent oil
bunkering which is now rampart in many parts of the country. It is a
way of improving the economy of the country and ensuring availability
of petroleum products in all parts of the country.”
Edema who affirmed the resolve of the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s
administration to open up the state, said the oil producing areas in
the state would soon be opened up to international oil companies.
According to him, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the
Ondo State government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on the construction of road linking Lagos to Igbokoda will further boast the economy of the state.
Edema expressed his readiness to serve the state with all commitments, saying that the resources accrued to the OSOPADEC will be used for the development of the state, especially the two Local
Government Areas of Ese-Odo and Ilaje which are the only Oil producing
council areas in the state.
Speaking against the backdrop of allegation that his appointment was
against the edict that established the commission, Edema stated that
as an indigene of Ogogoro community in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state, he is eminently qualified to occupy the position.
He solicited for the support of the people of Ondo South Senatorial district for the smooth operations of the commission, just as he said the activities of the Niger/Delta militants are at lowest ebb in the state.
