Husband In Police Custody Over Wife’s Death In Ondo

Ondo State Police Command has arrested one Adeolu Babalola over the mysterious death of his wife who hung herself in Akure, the state capital.

It would be recalled that Babalola’s wife a 52-year-old woman Margaret Opeyemi Babatola committed suicide by hanging herself in one of the apartment at her residence located at Idera Community, Apatapiti Layout Aule, Akure, last weekend.

According to the Ondo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph said on 12th June, 2017, at about 14:00hrs, the husband of the deceased, Adeolu Babalola reported at the Okuta-Elerinla division that his wife was not seen for about three days and he assumed that she has gone for Church programme.

The Police Spokesman furthered that the husband said that after that three days, it was discovered through disturbing flies that his wife, Margaret had hung herself to the burglary proof in one of the toilets of an uncompleted flat in their compound.

Joseph said that what the deceased told her husband was that she was going to vigil on Friday night but into husband surprised, he found the body of his wife hung.

He maintained that since the incident happened, the husband Adeolu had been invited to the command for interrogation over the saddening incident.

His words, “The husband is with us and helping us in our investigation, the husband told us that on Monday he was perceiving some strange odour and houseflies in one of the rooms in the house, when he checked inside, he saw his wife hanged.

“We are still investigating the matter and we have not suspected anybody for now and the corpse have been released to the family for burial after some traditional rites have been performed.

He however noted that it could not be certain if there was any criminal involvement in the incident but insisted that the investigation was still ongoing.

As at the time of investigation and filing this report, reasons behind the action of the deceased, Margaret Babalola was still unknown.

When our Correspondent visited the house of the incident, the building was under locked and keyed.
