The Nigerian federal government has approved the sum of N4,500 for each of the 200,000 beneficiaries of N-Power Volunteer Corps.
The approved subsidy is for the purchase of an electronic tablet device. According to Vanguard, the device would be loaded with different applications that would help them access further training opportunities during the two-year duration of the job program.
A total of 149, 669 Nigerian graduates are reportedly now collecting their monthly stipends of N30,000 having been physically verified and deployed across the 36 states and FCT.
The senior special assistant on media and publicity to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, made the announcement.
He said: “While each of the beneficiaries after being verified would select their choice of device amongst nine different BOI pre-approved vendors, the price ranges from N3,000 to N6,700 monthly deductions for the next 20 months.
“Therefore in some cases the N4,500 device grant would cover the full monthly deduction cost while in other cases the graduate authorizes BOI to deduct the additional differential cost from their monthly stipends depending on the device chosen.
“It was further disclosed that all the 149,669 N-Power beneficiaries now collecting their stipends have been physically verified and deployed, while their given bank account information have also been matched with the Bank Verification Number.”
The SSA also said: “In December, about 112,475 of the N-Power graduate beneficiaries received the
N30,000 monthly stipends, and the number came close to 150,000, both in January and February meaning about that number are now receiving their up-to-date stipends from the N-Power Volunteer Corps.”
It is important to note that, N-Power is an employment scheme set up by the federal government to help graduates secure the proper training and employment necessary to help the nation’s labour force.
According to the N-Power official website: Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development.
Despite the current high level of unemployment, harnessing Nigeria’s young demography through appropriate skill development efforts provides an opportunity to achieve inclusion and productivity within the country.
Large-scale skill development is the main policy thrust of the N-Power Programme. The modular programmes under N-Power will ensure that each participant will learn and practice most of what is necessary to find or create work.
The N-Power Teacher Corp involves a massive deployment of 500,000 trained graduates who will assist to improve the inadequacies in our public services in education, health and civic education.
The N-Power first list that was released is for those who applied for Npower Tech, Agro and health. They have been deployed and started receiving their monthly stipend.
