The news of the death of a commissioner at the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Mr. Lateef Oludare Raji, has been described as sudden, shocking and a piece of sad news by the Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

Before his death on Monday morning, Raji was a staunch All Progressive Congress (APC) party man in Lagos State and a consummate journalist.

In a statement by the Media Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Sola Fasure, Aregbesola described the untimely death of Mr. Raji as one that has robbed Lagos State of a loyal party man and a grassroots politician.

The Governor said Raji was his personal friend and staunch supporter who never wavered in  supporting him in all his political endeavours. He described Raji as a dependable party organiser who demonstrated sound knowledge of party organisation when he was the Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Lagos State Chapter.

Aregbesola lamented that the sudden transition of Mr. Raji will no doubt leave a huge vacuum in LASIEC, Nigerian politics and the media industry.

The statement said in part: “There is no gainsaying the fact that Lagos APC, the media family and particularly LASIEC will miss Lateef’s invaluable contributions to the activities of the state electoral commission, his informed writings and social commentaries.
On behalf of myself, the government and the good people of the State of Osun, I offer our heart-felt condolences to the immediate and extended families of Mr. Raji, management and staff of LASIEC, APC Lagos and the Lagos State Government.

I prayer that Almighty Allah repose his soul in aljanna firdaus and give the family the fortitudes to bear this irreparable loss.”
