Afolabi explained that Victoria who was walking aimlessly around Odo-Ogbe market in Ile-Ife, was accosted by one Mr Akinyanju Babatunde Akinbowale, a member of Community Security Awareness Initiative Corps of Nigeria in the course of his duty.
According to him, “The good Samaritan then led the girl to NSCDC, Ife central Division, Osun State. Victoria Emmanuel Okon, aged 9 stated that she is an orphan from Akwa Ibom State.
“She said one of her aunties, Alice Okonitom took her to Lagos State with the promise of taking care of her. But in 2015, the aunty handed her over to a woman, Mrs Grace Bashiru from IIe-Ife as maid.
“She said, Grace Bashiru formed the habit of beating her at the slightest provocation or mistake committed.
According to her, Grace usually maltreats and abuses her at will. The last straw that broke the camel’s back was on the 5th October when she flogged her as usual in the midnight, that action informed her decision to run away from home.
