Insecurity: Kwara State Government sets up Harmonised Vigilante Group
Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Fatai Hameed has disclosed the resolve of his administration to harmonise various vigilante groups in the state in order to strengthen the security architecture of the state the more.
The governor, made the disclosure at the monthly meeting of the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress,(APC) recently, saying in the face of various security challenges in the North West zone, and Nigeria at large, local vigilante groups would be a necessary and viable complement to the police in the area of local intelligence gathering and community policing.
Hameed explained that the Harmonised Vigilante Group would be under the supervision of the State Command of the Nigerian Police Force.
He said that the new arrangement is to guarantee that the vigilante groups work within the provisions of the law, and also to ensure adequate protection of lives and property at the communities level.
Meanwhile, the head of Harmonised Vigilante Group, Alhaji Ridwan Hussein has commended the Governor over the development, adding that the move was timely and proactive in the face of serious security challenges in the country.
Hussein opined that the activities of his group in Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti have yielded huge results in nipping crimes in the bud.
He however charged people of the state to cooperate with the police and members of the vigilante groups by giving useful security informations that could help in tracking down criminals.
