Buhari Urged to Make Jonathan’s Professional Universities Functional

President Muhammadu Buhari has been enjoined to direct all relevant agencies in the country to allow the professional Universities established by the past administration to be adequately functional.

The Chairman, Governing Council of Alvan Ikoku University, Owerri, Rt. Hon.
John Fasogbon made this call in a press statement issued and made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo.

Fasogbon, who was asking the National Assembly, Ministries of Justice and Education to also speed up action on relevant laws to bring back the Universities emphasized the need for the President to allow the affected Universities to be functional adequately as a matter of urgency.

The Chairman, who noted that, creation of the professional Universities in the six geo-political zones by the immediate past administration will continue to help in no small measure, noted that, “the universities established in all six geo-political zones have gone a long way in reducing the psychological trauma, rejection and destruction of dreams being faced by many helpless Nigerians Youths in the past.”

“Although, one must commended President for his apology over the dissolution of governing councils of universities in the country but we are still demanding for the reversal of the decision”.

Fasogbon, who reminded Mr.President about the specialized universities that were established by the immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan’ said, the development was in line with the current international trend of developing specialized universities for enhancement of professionalism for quality human capital development.

According to Fasogbon, “The President should allow the affected Universities to be functional, they should remove pulse on them as they have been put on hold for over a year by the present federal government.

They should also make them to be in the same category with other existing
Universities in the Country for them to produce enough teachers at degree
level as a way of collaborating federal government’s efforts in developing
education sectors in the country”.

The Governing board Chairman however noted that, the four former Colleges of Education that were upgraded to Universities of Education were self sufficient on their own with the little resources having to run their affairs as a full fledge University.

“The Universities also have both the human and other resources that can
sustain them to be on their own at any point in time”, Fasogbon added.

According to Fasogbon, “the entire people of Imo, Ondo, Kaduna, and Kano states where the affected universities were sited wants Mr. President to urgently release the hold on the institutions for the benefit of Nigerians as a whole as government is a continuity.
