Aiteo Cup; Akorede’s Late Header Pulls Osun Utd Into Last 8
Osun United Football Club continue their good run in the Aiteo Cup as they came from a goal down to defeat Nationwide League One side, Elkanemi Babes Football Club of Maiduguri, 2-1 at the Oshogbo Township Stadium.
The Omoluabi Giants progressed to the quarter final of the Aiteo Cup with the important win over Elkanemi Babes.
Osun United started the match well and dominated much of the encounter but lacked a cutting edge in the final third as Tosin Omoyele, and Yusuf Aderemi were shy in front of goal.
The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute through Ahmadu Abubakar, well curled set piece that beats Ayo Ojo, in goal for Osun United to silent the impressive fans at the Stadium.
Osun United came into the game stronger after conceding the lone goal and Victor Okeji, took full advantage of Elkanemi Babes sloppiness at the back to level in the 31st minute to end the first half 1-1.
The result stayed 1-1 before substitute Mamud Akorede, header confirmed Osun United spot in the tourney quarter final in the 82nd minute.
The former FC Ebedei winger rose highest to head a Chinedu Emmanuel, corner kick into the back of the net to send the fans into wide jubilation.
