Osogbo Residents Besiege Prison For Detained Diekola
Scores of indigenes of Osogbo on Wednesday besieged the Ilesa Prison where a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Fatai Diekola Oyedele and six other persons are being detained to pay a solidarity visit to their incarcerated kinsmen.
Our correspondent gathered that Osogbo indigenes under the umbrella of the Osogbo Progressive Union visited the detained persons to also find out what happened and how to resolve the crisis.
They were led by the National President, OPU, Ambassador Rasaki Siyanbola and other members of the executive including the National Treasurer and National Public Relations Officer, Hassan Adegoke and Oyesiku Adelu respectively.
An indigene of Osogbo, who identified himself as Isaac Adewale, told our correspondent that Diekola, who was remanded for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace on the order of a Chief Magistrate, A.A. Ayeni, was in high spirits when the OPU team visited the prison.
Adewale said, “Indigenes of Osogbo today ( Wednesday) visited Diekola at Ilesa Prison. The place was turned to a tourist site as all manners of people came in solidarity with him and other indigenes of Osogbo, who were remanded together with him.
“The National President of the OPU, the Treasurer, the national PRO were all part of the multitude of people that visited the prison to see some of their own members.
“We went there to see not only Alhaji Diekola but also other detainees. We were there on a fact-finding mission. The idea is to find out what happened and how to resolve it. Those of us, who visited the prison are from different political parties while others do not belong to any party.”
