Olubadan Installs Nigeria’s Minister Of Communications As Agbaakin

It was an atmosphere of joy when the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji Ajeogunguniso 1 installed the Minister of Communications, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Shittu as Agbaakin Fiwajoye of Ibadanland.

Barrister Ademola Babatunde Folarin as Agbaakin Maiyegun of Ibadanland and Chief Mrs Adenike Folasade Folarin as Yeye Maiyegun of Ibadanland on Saturday.

The formal decoration of the chiefs with the “Akoko” leaves as a symbol of chieftaincy title took place at the king’s palace, Popo Yemoja, Ibadan before moving to Jogor centre for the reception.

The two in one ceremony attracted dignitaries and well wishers from the nooks and crannies of Oyo state and beyond.

Barrister Adebayo Shittu in his remarks said he was delighted with the honour.

He appreciated the people of Ibadan for entrusting in him the confidence that has developed to him getting the title.

The Minister however pledged not to let his people down by making sure that Ibadanland reaches the development vision of its founding fathers.

Barr Shittu said “Ibadan consists of 11 local governments out of 33 local governments and electorally Ibadanland is about 55% of the vote, so if the people of Ibadanland have conferred trust in me, having respect for me, having positive feelings for me and conferred on me through Olubadan of Ibadanland this title what else do I need in terms of Chieftaincy.”

Speaking at the event, the Chief operating officer of NIPOST described the Minister as the most humble man he had ever seen.

He charged people of Ibadan to give him more serious support in his ambition to be next governor of the state and he will serve them welll

Dignitaries at the event includes a former governor of Oyo state, Senator Rasheed  Ladoja, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa and her husband, Segun Erewa, Iyalode of lbadan, Chief Amina Abiodun, Femi Olaore, Mr Ogunwale who represented the minister of Agriculture and a host of others.
