Ritual killings : Kwara WHA Urges Government To Establish Anti-ritual Security Outfit
This is part of the resolutions of the Legislature at its Thursday’s Sitting, following a motion on “Curbing the menace of Ritualists in Kwara State” raised by a member representing Gwanabe/Gweria/Bani/Adena Constituency Hon Muhammed Baziki Suleiman
Reading the resolutions of the Parliament, the Deputy Speaker Hon MatthewOkedare who presided over the sitting, said the establishment of the anti
ritualist security outfit, became imperative in view of the urgent need to curb the negative trend, which according to him, had claimed innocent souls who he said would have contributed significantly to the socio-economic development of the state.
The Legislature which equally enjoined community, religions leaders and individuals to be vigilant called on security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities of curbing ritual killings and other nefarious activities, in the State.
It also advised the various transport unions in the state, to number their vehicles and motor cycles for easy identification as part of measures of
curbing the incessant ritual killings in the state.
The parliament while calling in the State Ministry of Information and Communication to intensity its sensitization effort on the activities of the ritualists, admonished Parents and Guardians to always ensure close monitoring of their children and wards to forestall the occurrence of the
incident
Hon Baziki had while raising the Motion cited instances of ritual killings in Ilorin, noting with displeasure that the authority concerned
had not paid the deserved attention to curbing the menace.
Other members who contributed on the Motion attributed the alarming rate of ritual killings to moral bankruptcy and called for concerted efforts by all
Stakeholders in curbing the ugly incident in the state.
The House also at its Thursday’s sitting observed a minute silent in honour of the Speaker’s grandmother, Hajia Lailatu Ayoka Opo Muhammed Raji popularly known as iya Riha who died at the age of 140.
