Pastor Remanded For Cutting Off Wife’s Breast in Ibadan
A Magistrate’s Court sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday ordered a 61-yearold man, Adejare Adebayo, to be remanded in the Agodi Prison for allegedly using a knife to cut off the breast of his wife.
Adebayo, who was identified as a pastor of a church in Ibadan, according to Inspector Sunday Ogunremi, the prosecutor, allegedly cut off the right breast of his wife, Mrs. Risikayat Adegbule (43), causing her excruciating pain which led to her death after some days.
When he appeared before the Chief Magistrate, F. Richard, of Court 2, Iyaganku, the accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge pressed against him by the police.
According to the charge sheet marked: Mc/26c/2017, the crime was committed at Onikankan village, Ibadan on Christmas Eve.
According to the First Information, Adebayo said that he cut the other affected breast because his wife had earlier suffered cancer in her left breast which had previously been cut off through surgical operation.
The charge reads: “That you, Pastor Adejare Adebayo, on 24 December 2016 at 12a.m., Onikankan village, Ibadan did unlawfully cause the death of Rukayat Adegbule aged 43 by cutting her breast, thereby committed an of- fence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Vol. 11 Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap IX, Vol. 11 of the Laws of Oyo State.”
It was learnt that the woman’s relatives had been searching for her for about two weeks, until her husband informed them of her death at the weekend. The magistrate adjourned the matter till February 14 for mention.
