Akeredolu Makes 1st Controversial Order, Freezes Ondo LG Councils Accounts
- Suspends Salary Payment to Chairmen, Councilors, Others
In what seems to be his first controversial action, Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, today – Thursday ordered the freezing of all bank accounts of the 18 local governments in the state.
Akeredolu also directed that payments of salaries and allowances of the local council chairmen, councilors and political appointees be suspended.
All the chairmen and councilors of the local governments are elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April 2016.
A state High Ciurt in Akure had few weeks ago given an order restraining Akeredolu from dissolving them before the expiration of their tenure.
Confirming the suspension Mr Bayo Alarapon who is the Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Ondo state chapter, said they (council chairmen) were yet to decide what to do on the matter.
Alarapon said: “We have not really gone into the matter, but we are already into it and whatever we decide later, we will let the world know.”
