Katsina State Governor’s Aide Empowers 1,000 Women
Hajiya Bilkisu Saulawa, the Special Adviser on Women Affairs to the Katsina State Governor, has empowered about 1,000 women in Daura Zone.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Saulawa donated to the beneficiaries items which include: 85 sewing machines; 500 bags of groundnut; 150 bags of Soya beans; 200 bags of beans and 200 spaghetti making machines.
She said at a ceremony in Daura that the programme was aimed at boosting the economic status of the women especially those in the rural areas.
She said that the programme would be expanded to accommodate more women.
The special adviser called on the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the materials by establishing small scale businesses.
The Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Zakiya Masari, commended the focus and foresight of the adviser in initiating the programme.
Zakiya said the State Government had so far empowered over 500,000 women in the state in the last two years.
NAN reports that the zone comprises 12 local government areas namely, Daura, Zango, Sandamu, Maiadua, Ingawa, Kusada,Kankiya and Bindawa.
Others are: Baure, Dutsi, Mashi and Mani.
