The Osun state Government has decried the proliferation of illegal structures across the state.

The state government urged the residents of the state to always seek and obtain approval before embarking on building projects, saying that the present administration would not tolerate any illegal structure.

The General Manager, Osun State Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Hassan Afolabi, made the statement while addressing journalists shortly after a monitoring exercise across the state at the weekend.

Afolabi stressed the need for the residents of the state to always respect specification while developing structures.

He, however charged Town Planners and other concerned stakeholders in building and construction at local and state levels to always guide the people against consequences of illegal structures.

According to him, people need to be frequently educated and enlightened most importantly on the penalty attached to illegal building and construction.

He said it is the responsibility of professionals in building and construction sector to always inform, educate and orientate the masses on the need for them to respect laws on building and construction.

“It is embarrassing to hear that, Land-Speculators through their nefarious acts to sell land often endanger the lives of the people in the society.

“These people with their insatiable appetite for undue gains do sell unapproved lands and properties to innocent people having envisioned multiple profits on the said lands”, he added.

Afolabi reiterated that it was against the law to build a structure without getting the approval just as it was equally wrong for anyone to build a house under a high tension of 33KV as well as railway sets-back.

He assured the people of the state of government’s commitment to protect their lives and properties against unwarranted hazard, saying Capital Territory Development Authority would not relent in its responsibilities to the people and the society.

Afolabi therefore commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for prioritising communal peace and progress since assumption of office.
