Ooni Earmarks N50m Worth Scholarship For Best 20 Students In Southwest
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has earmarked 50 million naira worth scholarship to provide access to quality education to the less privileged and vulnerable children.
The scholarship programme which is in three phases will afford students of secondary schools in the southwest region to compete where the 20 outstanding students will be awarded the scholarship.
CityMirrorNews reports that the project is tagged: “Ojaja Educational Initiative”.
The Project Coordinator, Olojede Ayobami while briefing journalists in Ile-Ife said the programme was designed to help students achieve their academic goals and as well serve as a means of promoting unity and good relationship among southwest people.
Ayobami further explained that the initiative was designed to ensure that learning at all levels increase thereby giving room for brilliant students to have free education to the university level
He maintain that the culture of professional counselling support and vocational training will also be part of the initiative towards taking many youths off the street.
According to Ayobami ” the initiative is designed to ensure that learning at all levels increase and also to ensure that education reaches all the children who are in need of it or unable to access it. The youths will be opportune to be well trained for various job opportunities.
“The programme is to assist the less privileged citizens of the Southwest to reach their academic goals which will go a long way to serve as a means of promoting unity and good relationship amongst secondary school students and south west people.”
“The entry of the scholarship competition, is proposed to be held in three phrases which are; online qualifications across the six southwest states of Nigeria , physical qualification will be held in each south west state where the qualified students will meet for the final to produce the scholarship winners.
Part of the cardinal itinerary of the program was to consistently train students and teachers in the southwest; provision of professional counseling support for students in secondary schools; vocational training and organizing of second chance program for dropout,” Ayobami added.
“The competition is open to all SS3 students in all government owned secondary schools in the southwest states
“Participants will require verification of students’ status online (www.ojajaeducationalinitiative.org.ng) before participating in the competition”
Speaking on the initiative, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi said the scholarship programme would afford the students the opportunity to have access to qualitative education.
Oba Ogunwusi further explained that the programme was designed to support the vulnerable and give hope to the hopeless on education.
The revered monarch noted that some people are out there that God had blessed so well with intellect and wisdom but they do not have the resources
He said that “such person would be disturbed emotionally and physiologically and if we lose those kind of people it going to affect us, saying that was the brain behind Ojaja Educational Initiative”.
