Nigerians Yet To Feel Change Mantra Promised By APC-Doyin Okupe
By Ayobami Agboola, Osogbo
The national leader of the Accord Party, Dr. Doyin Okupe, on Tuesday in Osogbo said that the citizens were yet to witness the change promised by the All Progressive Congress APC led administration.
Okupe made the remarks while addressing party members at a South West Stakeholders Summit of held at the popular Nelson Mandela Freedom park, Osogbo.
The former Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, who bemoaned the way and manner with which the current administration was handling some sensitive issues in terms of policies making.
Okupe noted that majority of Nigerians are dissatisfied with the ruling All progressive Congress (APC), adding that the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is too disorganised to be effective as opposition.
He declared that Accord Party was gradually gaining recognition in the nation’s political space and urged Nigerian to give the party chance to lead.
He said: “the APC and PDP archaic policies cannot guarantee the future of Nigeria”, stressing that the platform provided by Accord is available for Nigerians, especially youth to have a shot at leadership of the country.
“We started this South West summit of Accord and it is a tradition we have newly introduced. We started in Oyo, where Dr Ajaja, who is here was made Oyo State leader. Here we are in Osogbo, from here, we go to Lagos and from Lagos to Ogun until we go round the entire South West.
“It is a familiarisation kind of political movement and also to sensitise members of the public about the new political third force that is operating in the country presently, which is the Accord”, he remarked.
On the chances of Accord in Osun 2018 governorship election, Okupe said: “our effort is not only to make a difference, but to install an Accord governor in Osun.
“It is quite understandable everybody that is presentable or likely to be presented by either the APC or PDP, they are all expired. The parties themselves are of no very serious consequence and they have been dislocated and dislodged from the general constitution of the people and the followership.
“Everybody in Nigeria today is dissatisfied with the APC and they also dissatisfied with the PDP and they are yearning and looking seriously for a true change this time and they are looking for a new platform, which Accord is offering Nigeria.”
Speaking, the state Chairman of Accord, Olusegun Ayodele Fanibe, said the essence of the summit was for the stakeholders and party members to brainstorm on how to rescue the country as a whole and the state in particular from this current mess.
Fanibe who expressed optimism that the party would wrestle power from the ruling All Progressive Congress said there was need for good people of the to state to work towards ensuring the real change.
According to the Chairman, the people of Osun are tired of the current government and they are ready to change the change. with this turn out, I think our people are ready to vote out the government.
