Updated: Woman Killed By Thugs In Osogbo

A yet-to-be identified middle aged woman was killed in Osogbo, Osun state on Saturday morning by unknown thugs.

Information made available to newsmen revealed that the woman was on her way to her shop situated at old garage (emumi emumi) when the assailants overtook her with their motorcycle and shot her point-blank.

An eyewitness, Bimbola Ibrahim, wrote on his Social media page;

An aged poor woman has been shot dead by assailants who were on a bike. The deceased was allegedly going for her daily job at old garage (emumi emumi ). The incident happened 45 minutes ago. The security men are ground but the dead body has not been evacuated yet. We call on the CP to do the needful. The perpetrator must be brought to book.

Another report said the incident happened few minutes past 9am Saturday, when the deceased, a labourer was going towards Old Garage from Orisumbare end, where labourers usually assembly and wait for whoever will hire them.

Eyewitness said the deceased was hit by stray bullets, after the gunmen on motorcycle released several shots into the air as they moved.

As at the time of filing in this report, security men were on ground, but the deceased has not been evacuated.

In an expanded version of the report, Another person was killed at another popular market, Idi-seke.

Witnesses say loud gunshots rented the air.

The fight that caused the Old Garage incident was said to have started Friday night, near Dugbe Divisional Police station.

Traders at the Ikirun/Ilorin Motorpark, told newsmen that some thugs working in the park had Friday night  beat up another transporter,who was relaxing at a nearby “joint”  after returning from a road trip.

The assaulted man,was said to have arrived the park early Saturday morning with his own group in a repriasal attack.

The two groups engaged in a fight  which led to the death of the woman Labour error and another unidentified person.

There is heavy presence of security men at the Orisumbare market in Osogbo as palpable calm is restored to the area.

News of the incident is currently creating tension in the minds of Osogbo residents as many have resorted to other routes leaving the Orisumbare/Old-Garage/Ajegunle end where the clash was said to have been brewed.
