WCQ: Cameroon Hold Nigeria, Lose Out On Russia 2018
By Olabode Abolaji
Nigeria’s hopes of getting a straight qualification for the Russia 2018 World Cup was on Monday evening delayed as they were held by the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 1-1 in the match-day 4 of the African stage of the World Cup qualifiers.
The Super Eagles needed just a win in Monday’s game after thrashing their opponents 4-0 on Friday in Uyo which could have made their points risen to 12 after beating Algeria and Zambia in matching 1 and 2.
The Eagles got the lead in the 30th through a well converted effort by Moses Simon.
But with the second half approaching its last quarter, the Indomitable Lions got back in the game with a penalty converted by talisman, Vincent Aboubakar.
With the draw, Nigeria now have 10 points from 4 games with an opportunity to qualify if they beat Zambia in Uyo in October.
