Train Derails as Three Coaches Detached in Osogbo
A cargo train in the early hours of Saturday derailed at the popular Nelson Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
Investigation conducted revealed that three coaches at the rear of the train detached unknown to the driver of the train at Dagbolu shortly after leaving Osogbo terminus.
CityMirrorNews gathered that the three detached coaches now move at opposite direction until it reach Nelson Mandela Freedom Park when it derailed.
The driver of the train, was said not to aware of detachment of the three coaches until the incident happened and was informed through radio of the railway.
The main train was said to have passed through Ikirun and heading towards Okuku when he had stopped it.
No life was lost in the incident as it happened around 1am. The detached coaches were loaded with cement and some personal goods and luggage of the commuters.
No officials of the newly refurbished Nigeria Railway Corporation was ready to volunteer information as official comment but it was gathered that as at around 1pm efforts were being made to clear the rail.
It was also incident has also halted the passage of another cargo train which was stationed at the terminus for the clearance of the rail line for it to move.
As at the time of visiting the scene of the incident, security operatives made of Police and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were at hand to maintain law and order.
When contacted, the State Police commissioner, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye who spoke through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro confirmed the incident.
She said that the command had reached the management of NRC on the incident and efforts were made to clear the rail to prevent further calamity.
