Massive Protest in Ekiti as Fayose Plans to Demolish Mosques
A massive protest broke out in Ado-Ekiti today as Muslims trooped out in their hundreds to show their displeasure against the planned demolition of a mosques built within petrol stations by Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The Muslims, majority of who are youths and members of National Muslim Youth Organization (NACOMYO) marched through the streets of Ado-Ekiti in the peaceful protest that started from the home of the President of league of Imams and Alfas, South-West, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere.
The Ekiti state government had marked all mosques in filling stations for demolition, a move that some people traced to the dispute between Fayose and Petroleum Dealers in the state.
A letter signed by Permanent secretary, Ministry of Land and Housing, Adeyiola Ibitoye stated that all worship centres within filling stations will be demolished for precautionary measure to forestall the ugly fire incident which engulfed a filling station at Ijigbo in January.
But CityMirrorNews learnt that the demolition order was actually targeting the Secretary of the Petroleum Dealers Association in the state, Sulayman Akinbami who in his usual practice build mosque in every of his filling station.
Akinbami is one of the arrow heads of the struggle against the state government.
The state government had also directed Akinbami through a letter to demolish all mosques in his filling stations within 72-hour. The letter was served on Akinbami on the night of Monday, April 3, 2017.
Fayose, according to reported wanted to weaken and demoralize Akinbami in a bid to suppress the petroleum dealers, hence the move to demolish all the mosques in his filling stations.
But Muslims have rejected the demolition of the mosque move, describing it as an act of oppression on the Muslim community in the state.
Mr Tajudeen Ahmed who led the protest said Fayose has been hostile to Muslims since the inception of his administration.
