Mammoth Crowd as Aregbesola Inaugurates Osun LGs Caretaker Executive Secretaries

Despite the internal crisis rocking different segments of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, members of the party trooped out en-masse to witness the inauguration of caretaker management committees for the 62 Local Governments, Local Council Development Areas and Area Offices recently approved by the state house of assembly.

CityMirrorNews reporter who was at the Local Government Service Commission Hall in the State Secretariat, Abeere, venue of the programme, observed that party faithful from the nooks and crannies of the state had been trooping in to the venue as early as 9am on Thursday even before the 2pm fixed time for the commencement of proceedings.

Right from the Osogbo branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria to the gate of the secretariat, vehicles were parked along the road leading to the venue which kept security men in the secretariat busy till the programme lasted.

There was traffic jam in the state secretariat as the operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were unable to control the influx of vehicles to the venue of the programme.

The local government service commission hall and its premises were filled to capacity by people who were standing in the scorching sun awaiting the taking of the oath of office by the executive secretaries.

The APC members no doubt were excited as many of those who spoke with the reporter expressed their happiness on the inauguration which caught them almost unaware.

They said the constitution of new caretaker management committees was long overdue, noting the relevance of the new executives to the benefit of party members across the state.

According to the APC supporters, the new local government leadership across the state represents their hope for good governance at the grassroots, adding that they are assured of dividends of democracy with the caretaker committees.

As at the time CityMirrorNews left the venue of the inauguration, businessmen and women were seen trying to avail themselves the opportunity provided by the influx of people for the occasion.

It would be recalled that the Osun State House of Assembly had on Tuesday, May 2 unanimously confirmed the appointment of caretaker management committees for council areas of the state after a thorough screening process.
