Murder: Osun Police Command Denies Killing Innocent Citizen

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of one Segun Emir who was allegedly killed in the early hours of Sunday by a policeman in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Olafmihan Adeoye stated this through the Command’s Public Relatons Officer, Mrs Folashade Odoro.

The Command denied killing the innocent citizens by one of the men of the Command, saying the victim was among the touts that have been preventing men and officers of the Command from doing their constitutional responsibilities in the state.

Odoro, while confirming in a statement ‎alleged that  the deceased was among the touts that attacked a police patrol team and prevented the policemen from rescuing some people who made a distress call to the police.  
 
“We received a distress call that over 50 thugs led by Akaje, Ora and Epo were harassing innocent people at Aloyunkewu, Imole n fe Alaafia street, Lion Junction, Ori Eeru, Oke Allahu all at Oke Baale area in Osogbo and that peoples’ lives were in danger.

“Policemen were deployed to the scene swiftly to rescue people and when the police patrol team got there, the thugs attacked the policemen with dangerous weapons. The Commissioner of Police in the state; Mr Fimihan Adeoye has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter,” Odoro said.

However, CityMirrorNews reliably gathered that deceased alongside his friends had engaged in a serious argument with the team of the police officers over an unprintable issue.

The deceased and his friends were said to have been playing football before a team of police officers allegedly assaulted the deceased, a development that instigated hots argument.

The eyewitness who confirmed the incident exclusively revealed that one of the policemen (identity unknown) felt hot-tempered and shot the deceased on the chest to prevent possible mob action.

The victim was reported to have been immediately rushed to a private hospital in the area, but ejected and called for an onward transfer to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, LAUTECH, Osogbo, due to the gravity of the injuries sustained by the deceased.

CityMirrorNews also learnt that the victim due to the profuse bleeding eventually gave up the ghost at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital‎.

Meanwhile, the confirmation of the victim death according to the source made some angry youths in the community to go violent, a development that led to the attach of a police station in the area.

The angry youths also barricaded some strategic streets to prevent security agencies from being proactive in actions, leaving the entire community into a serious pandemonium and fear of uncertainty.

As at the time of filing this report, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the LAUTECH hospital’s morgue awaiting justice.
