Independence: Nigeria Needs Character Reformation To Succeed As A Nation, Says Cleric

As Nigeria clocks 57 years of independence, the Minister-in-Charge of God of Fire Global Evangelical Ministry (GOFGEM), Evangelist Peter Kolajo has called for character reformation among Nigerians for the country to succeed.

He said Nigeria would have met most of her desires if the citizens had seen the need to champion the cause of unity, peace, togetherness, neighborliness and brotherhood above other considerations and individual gains.

Evangelist Kolajo made the call in his statement signed by his media aide, Gbemi Jesuleke and made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo to commemorate the 57th Nigeria’s Independence Day Celebration.

The clergyman called for attitudinal change among Nigerians to one another and to God, noting that a nation like Nigeria could only succeed in an atmosphere totally dedicated to God.

Evangelist Kolajo  said Nigeria has grown to the stage where the quest for peace and unity couldn’t negotiated.

He advocated for collective consciousness towards nation building and national development, stressing the fact that  the prosperity of Nigeria lies in her sense of togetherness in view of the nation’s multi-ethno-religious tendencies.
According to the cleric, independence is just a bragging right on paper, the effect is not fully felt yet in the life of average Nigerians because there is little or nothing much to show for this hard earned freedom since 1960.

“The family unit system has lost its moral values by shying away from upholding the truth always while Pseudo-Clerics have taken advantage of the masses to enrich their pockets and families vis-a-vis deceit at the expense of their congregation.

“It is unfortunate that our leaders have betrayed every oath sworn before assuming office because the fear of God is missing in their lives, thus rendering the significance of independence to be a front-page news alert, never reflecting yet on our economy, our resources, social and human developments.

“Hence, this period must be the moment of sober reflection on our collective past and national life to tow the path to peaceful coexistence, togetherness, unity and stability.

“So, at 57, if truly we are serious as a people to enhance good governance and national growth and development, thus, the need for attitudinal change between the rulers and the ruled must be championed.

“We can only transform our nation only if we that champion the cause are being reformed, hence the need to champion the call for character reformation among the citizenry.

“Though we thank God for keeping us as one nation till today despite all the turbulent times in the past, as we are still optimistic that Nigeria is on the verge of enjoying the true glory of independence”.
“Nigeria will be great and better for all if we can live in unity and turn our focus to God‎”, he added.

Evangelist Kolajo bemoaned the economic recession, insecurity, massive unemployment, unrest and poverty raging the nation as indicators of the absence of genuine leadership and true followership.

He therefore urged Nigerians from all geo-political zones, ethnic groups and tribes to turn to God, inchoate faithfulness in families, shun narcissism and be committed to the promotion of unity, peace and togetherness.
